The founder of JIS had come to realise that city life in Japan was not conducive for people to meet new people or make new friends. Asian cultural norms dictated that it was not appropriate to simply strike up a conversation with a stranger. He had a brainwave. Why not help bring people together in a comfortable setting? After discussions with some of his friends, he decided to organise dinner parties that brought people from different walks of life together. Held in an apartment, these dinner parties instantly became a big hit, and the rest, they say, is history.

JIS has grown by leaps and bounds since the establishment of its first social lounge in the founder’s home town of Sapporo. In just 8 years, it opened 7 outlets serving 1.4 million guests yearly in major cities across Japan. In 2020, it opened its first lounge outside of Japan, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
JIS has become the byword for being a social hotspot, where you can connect with people who share like-minded interests and discover new and long-lasting friendships.
